Extremely fast transient response combined with massive impact & high SPL levels.

The VR-S/3 powered subwoofer was engineered to be the world's fastest and clearest design, eliminating the coloration found in conventional subwoofers due to slow speed and hangover. VSA has worked for a year on an Extreme-Duty 12" woofer design of heroic specifications and a 900-watt (peak) High Current amplifier capable of fast transient response at extremely high volume levels. We believe we have developed the most transparent subwoofer available, and then we designed it to easily integrate with any main speaker, in any type of application. After auditioning the VR-S/3, you will find that all other subwoofers sound like a low frequency "roar" without pitch differentiation

CABINET
The massively built enclosure was engineered to provide rock-solid stability at extreme volume levels, without adding distortion or coloration to the driver motion. The total weight of the system is 105lbs, amazingly stout for such a compact unit. A 2" thick MDF front baffle is combined with a complicated honeycomb interlocked bracing system. Internally, the 1" MDF walls are damped by 1" thick acoustic foam pads to provide the ultimate in sound deadening. Bass tuning is accomplished by a flared port tuned to 20Hz. Frequency response extends down to 16Hz (-6dB).

EXTREME DUTY WOOFER
High volume, low frequency sound reproduction depends on volumetric displacement, high-speed transient response without hangover, and unlimited headroom. To accomplish these goals in an ultimate driver, we have selected a 12" cone made of aluminum, Nomex, and Kevlar honeycomb sandwich. Although extremely light (less than an equivalent thickness of paper), this cone will not flex or distort at any volume level. The cone is held in the cast aluminum frame with dual spiders and a thick butyl surround that allows a 2" excursion potential! To handle the 900-watt (peak) power, we have installed a 3" diameter voice coil bonded with aerospace adhesives that will not delaminate at high volume levels. The 25lb weight of this heroic driver is mainly in the motor system, allowing very high efficiency. This combination of design elements is not found in any other unit on the market!

AMPLIFIER
We selected a Class A/B design over the less expensive Class D switching design; our decision was based on reliability, depth , and tone quality. For this reason, our amp is very large and heavy, using a huge transformer and large power supply capacitors for high reserve power during peaks. The multiple output devices can put out 900-watt peaks before the onset of distortion, allowing our amplifier to drive the Extreme-Duty woofer to incredible volume levels without compression.

FEATURES AND CONTROLS

  • 110V/220V switch, automatic-on switch, power off switch.

    AVAILABLE FINISHES
The standard finish is a cloth wrap with hardwood end caps available in light or dark red cherry. Available at extra cost and lead-time are black ash end caps.

    VR-S/3  SPECIFICATIONS:

System Type: Powered subwoofer in hybrid bass reflex cabinet, with integral crossover.
Size:  25.5" high, 14.5" wide, and 18" deep. The mounting bass adds 1.5" more to width and depth.
Weight: 105 lbs. each, 120lbs shipping weight.
Woofer Tuning: The dual-chambered transmission line is a hybrid bass reflex design composed of two separate chambers coupled to the room by a tuned vent at 20Hz. The filling is acoustic foam and Dacron.
Cabinet and Bracing: A two-inch thick front baffle provides exceptional vibration control and solidity, while one-inch MDF fiberboard with interlocking bracing system provides exceptional rigidity and freedom from boxy colorations typical at this price range. The internal damping consists of 1" thick acoustic foam/felt lining and internal Dacron stuffing to eliminate cavity resonance.
Driver: One-12" cast frame Extreme-duty driver, with honeycomb cone made from aluminum, Nomex, and Kevlar. Two inch excursion potential enabled by dual spiders and butyl surround. Three-inch voice coil uses a proprietary Advanced Motor System with low distortion design and 16lb magnetic assembly.
Crossover: Adjustable 12dB electronic crossover with range of 40Hz to 100Hz. Bypass switch enables the crossover to be switched out to enable multi-channel processor to set the crossover frequency externally.
AC Power: 110V or 220V switchable, with removable IEC power cord.
Phase Reversal Switch:  0 degrees, 180 degrees.
    Frequency Response: -6dB @ 16hz and 100Hz
    Impedance:  22k ohms.
FTC Rated Power: 600 watts rms @ 2 ohms, 900 watts peak.
Input Sensitivity: 150mV through the RCA inputs.
Signal to Noise Ratio 85dB, Distortion is 0.08% THD at 1/3 power.
Warranty: Three years Parts and Labor from date of purchase.
Finishes: Standard finish is cloth wrap with light or dark red cherry end caps. Available at extra cost with additional lead-time are black ash wood end caps.
